A ventriculo-peritoneal shunt, which drains CSF from the brain to another area of the body, and; An external shunt, which drains CSF outside the body. With an external shunt, one (1) end of the tube goes through a small cut in the skin. Then, the tube carries fluid into a bag or other system. Why does my child need an external shunt?
