When it was developed in 1959, ACT stood for “American College Testing.” But there's a lot more to its history.
When and how many times should you take the Act?While the official policy allows you to take the ACT up to 12 times, for the sake of everyone's sanity my advice is to have students plan to take the exam at least 2 times on back-to-back test dates after completing some preparation. Step 1: Take a free practice ACT at home to get a sense of your student's starting score.
What does the Act do?The purpose of the ACT test is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.
What is included in the Act?The ACT includes the following ACT sections: English, Reading, Math and Science, as well as an optional Writing Test. Some schools may require the Writing Test, so be sure to ask before you register for the ACT. There are a total of 215 multiple-choice questions on the ACT test.
